Problem Statement

How might we seamlessly integrate a paired mobile application with the parent web application, Blueprint, to effectively streamline in-field data collection, empower agronomists with easy to use tools for in-field note taking, and enhance their decision making capabilities?

Product Overview

Corteva Agriscience partnered with Kin + Carta to develop Blueprint Mobile, a mobile application utilizing Microsoft Azure. This transformative tool empowers agronomists to plan and predict more accurate agricultural outcomes by streamlining data collection and providing real-time insights. Corteva, a global agricultural supplier, sought to enhance efficiency for production agronomists, enabling them to build relationships with growers, provide management recommendations, and plan supply forecasts effortlessly.

Responsibility

Tools

Objective

The primary objective was to alleviate the strenuous tasks faced by agronomists, enabling efficient in-field notes collection, seamless crop management, and informed decision-making.

Goals

Goals include simplifying data access, enabling informed decision-making, provide real-time forecasting, eliminating duplicate entries to enhance efficiency, and enhance yields for contracted growers.

Design Process

The UX process involved a collaborative effort with Kin + Carta, employing user interviews, task mapping, an Esien Hover Matrix, and a 5 Whys analysis. Continuous user research methods, including personas and pain points identification, shaped the iterative design process. The design principles focused on simplicity, decision enablement, and elimination of duplicate entries.

Collaborative Product Design

To meet user needs

Co-creative: Work together with customers and stakeholders to create a shared vision.

User Centered: Keep the customer journey at the heart of our process, and work to uncover and understand how members of the organization play a role in that experience.

Holistic: Understand the big picture of what it means to be a Corteva employee and customer.

Target Audience

Blueprint Mobile caters to agronomists, growers, and production teams globally. Agronomists benefit from streamlined field tasks, while growers gain real-time insights for informed decisions. Production teams find it indispensable for planning seed demand.

Competitive Analysis

In collaboration with Kin + Carta, we did several competitive analysis, ensuring that Blueprint Mobile stands out in terms of simplicity, efficiency, and decision enablement.

Common Pain Points When Using Other Apps Analysis

1. Too Many Apps

Switching between apps disrupts the flow and efficiency users when trying to complete a task.

2. Rural Connectivity

Slow or nonexistent service in rural areas poses significant challenges to operations.

3. Ever-changing Interfaces

Interfaces are not consistent across different apps and often add unnecessary complexity.

User Journey User Research

Research was a collaborative effort, involving a range of methods such as user interviews, prototype feedback sessions, A/B testing, and surveys. This comprehensive approach ensured diverse perspectives and valuable insights, shaping an application that resonated effectively with the needs and preferences of our users in the agricultural industry.

High Fidelity Screens

In Field Yield Estimates with mPhotometry

Experience the future of farming with mPhotometry! Using advanced machine vision, it captures detailed images of corn ears, eliminating labor-intensive hand calculations and revolutionizing the assessment of potential yield in specific fields. Precision and efficiency at your fingertips for a new era of agriculture.

Instant Moisture Estimates with SCiO

The Blueprint app pairs with a SCiO bluetooth moisture reader to collect moisture estimates, which help agronomists determine when to harvest crops. Quick, in-field seed corn moisture analysis. With Scio, users can analyze seed corn moisture directly on the cob. Get results in less than one minute with Blueprint on an iPhone or on the web.

Field Notes

Field Notes collected in the Blueprint Mobile app are immediately available within Blueprint Web. Allowing for users to quickly scan Field Notes across an entire production location.  Field Notes are saved at the field-level, allowing for anyone with access to the production location to see what’s been created by all users. This creates a optimizes flow if information that allows for task management by everyone on the production team.

Field Overview Showing Trends

Daily field-level moisture estimates will be available in Blueprint. Allowing for visibility and analysis of historical moisture trends on prior samples. Also offering insight such as daily high’s and low’s.
