What’s Product Hive?

Product Hive is a community of product managers, strategists, and designers that want to learn and share their knowledge with others. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to work with this amazing group and learn from some of the industries best.

Creating a Simplified A/V Setup

Keeping It Simple

While working with Product Hive, I noticed that most venues have their own customized presentation system. This created a fair amount of confusion during the setup phase for each event. Most of the senior staff understood the process backward and forwards but still had to train newbies like me under a time constraint.

I designed this diagram to help with the AV setup. This is a break down of 2 manuals, a 1 page set up guide written by the staff and 20 minutes of onsite training.

The staff is all volunteers, so someone is always in need of training or a refresher course. This was my solution to help free up seasoned staff so they could focus on other parts of the setup. Decreasing supervision needs has helped make the whole process a lot smoother.

Navigating The Maze Of Confusion

This is one of the pictures that was used previously to help during set up.

While it worked, it was a bit like doing a placemat maze at a diner. (Ages 6 and up)

Every step is a step towards progress. However small a step this diagram may seem, it has helped free up valuable minutes leading up to events that can now be used towards other concerns. Myself and other staff are constantly finding new ways to streamline the process, so much that events that usually required 3-4 staff, have been taken down to as little 2. The work I’ve done with Product Hive also includes some video editing using Adobe Premier and can be found on the Product Hive YouTube channel.

I’ve watched this group grow from a grassroots Meetup group to a multi-state organization and am proud to be a member. If you are not already part of the community, I highly recommend checking it out. There is always something new to learn and wonderful people to meet.
